French Provincial dresser

It seems that around here, the French Provincial furniture is in high demand. Even my contacts (places I visit often to buy furniture) have raised the prices.  Well I came across this beauty on craigslist and after the snowstorm (just one of many this season), I went and picked it up!
I stored it in the greenhouse for a few days, thinking about what color I wanted to paint it. Do you have those days? Sometimes when you see something for sale you instantly know what you want to do, but sometimes it takes me days and some times months (mid century modern dresser that has been in the shed for 7 plus months). After chatting with Stacey from Embracing Change (http://staceyembracingchange.com/), we chatted about gray.
And there it sat, again for days. I went on ebay and searched for paint. I found an awesome deal on Modern Masters Metallic Paint. So I ordered a few colors.  I was worried because that was during the Polar Vortex and if paint freezes, well that's it!  Luckily, it didn't freeze, and I was very happy with the selection. So I dragged the dresser from the greenhouse to my living room and started painting.

I started with drawers in Platinum.  I made sure that when applying the paint I brushed in the same direction.
For the body I went with Steel Grey.
Then after several coats (opaque usually take 2 coats, semi-opaque takes about 3), I did try to use a small roller for the top, I think I need to thin it, or I used the wrong roller, it left little bubbles, so I juse used my brush to smooth them out (all in the same direction).
FINALLY!

This beauty sold in less than a day!

This is gorgeous!!I'm looking into redoing my dresser and wondering if I could add plaster of paris to metallic paint to make it the chalk paint?

Carolyn, I'm not sure how well that would work. I haven't tried it, my thoughts, at least on this piece, was it would look odd distressed (is that why you are asking?). I just primed it with my mix of chalk paint, sanded it smooth and then painted with the metallics. The opaque covered well with 2 coats.

Thank you! I'm really new at this. I guess I'm looking for the easy way out. As far as I understand, using chalk paint I wouldn't have to sand down my dresser before I paint it. It is varnished and with chalk paint it should cover it well.? without sanding it. I'm not planning going for the distressed look on mine.

Correct, if you use chalk paint, I rarely sand beforehand. I like to mix up my own, and that's what I have been using as "primer" for under the metallics. I use the Modern Masters metallic paint, it is similar to latex and water clean up. Maybe I'll have to try it with some plaster of paris and see the outcome.
